Hygienists are trained at dental teaching hospitals in all aspects of preventative care, including fissure sealant and fluoride treatments, and are of the greatest importance in the prevention and treatment of periodontal or gum disease. To aid the treatment the hygienist may recommend the use of Oraqix which is a short acting non-injectable local anaesthesia or a range of topical antibiotic gels. The hygienist will advise as to the frequency of suggested visits as these will vary from patient to patient.
